Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine Family Room Opens on Pediatrics
We’re grateful to have the Ronald McDonald House of Maine’s Bangor location just down the road from Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center’s State Street campus. The house provides respite for families with children receiving treatment or recovering from a serious illness. And now, thanks to the generous support of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine, we have an extension of these comforts within an arms reach of families when they’re with their kids at the hospital.
The newly opened Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine Family Room is located on our Inpatient Pediatrics Unit. From top to bottom, the room has new flooring, furnishings, cabinets, countertops, and appliances. There is a new washer and dryer for families to do their laundry, and snacks and refreshments for people to enjoy.
“So many families really appreciate the convenience of having this space easily available to them,” says Mikele Neal, manager, Pediatrics, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Sedation, and Family Support Services. “We can’t thank the people from the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine enough for their generosity in making this space a warm and cozy ‘home away from home’ for families in need.”
The room is maintained by Ronald McDonald House volunteers who keep it tidy and well stocked with many of the amenities of home – all intended to help our families feel more comfortable while remaining close to their hospitalized child.
