A Hero and His Wingman

The team here at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center’s Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals program would like to introduce you to Scott Hanington and his wingman, Noah!

You may recognize Noah. Today, he is a healthy 13-year old from Brewer who was Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals 2014 State of Maine Champion Child, and he’s used his experience as a patient at EMMC to bring awareness about the importance of local pediatric healthcare. One of the first events that Noah attended as the Champion was the Professional Logging Contractors of Maine’s Annual Dinner and Auction to benefit Maine’s Log A Load for Kids program. There he met Scott Hangington, a Maine logger with a heart of gold and the annual auctioneer for this fun event.

The bond between the two was immediate. And, when Scott learned that Noah had created his Nickels with Noah fundraiser, he was the first person to donate his change to kick off the fundraising efforts. In 2018, Noah beamed with pride when Scott encouraged him to join him as his auctioneer sidekick to auction off some fly fishing ties that he had tied. Together, they raised more than $900 on that one item, and their relationship took to the stage at the 2019 Dinner and Auction, as well. This time, Noah had a surprise for Scott. He had created two Wingman shirts for them each to wear during the auction, and last night, Noah’s ten flies went for an incredible $1400 thanks to Scott’s encouraging words as Noah kicked off the bids.

To know Scott is to know a true Mainer logger. He’s rugged, family-oriented, and proud of the small Maine community he calls home. And, like so many of us, he’s fueled by a passion to make sure that Maine kids, kids like Noah, have the care they need close to home. Scott and his family counted on that care many years ago, and today, he – with his trusty wingman by his side – continue to help raise funds and awareness for these kids!
