Eastern Maine Medical Center NICU Nurse Receives National Recognition

One of our favorite quotes is by Margaret Mead. It reads, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” That quote rings true on the floors of Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. Our staff are changing the world for our patients and their families every day, and we’re incredibly proud to share that one of our nurses recently received national recognition.

Please join us in congratulating Ashley Wilcox, RN. Ashley recently received the Excellence in Neonatal Nursing Practice Award from the Academy of Neonatal Nursing. The award is given annually to honor neonatal nurses who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to their patients and families. They are staff nurses, practitioners, educators, and nurse managers who inspire others, nurture success, and show creativity, intelligence, perseverance, and an unbending will to provide the best nursing care possible.

Ashley’s colleague, Lisa Barnett, MSN, RN, C-NPT, C-NNIC, C-ONQS, a fellow nurse in our neonatal intensive care unit, submitted the award nomination, which sheared:

Having been a NICU nurse for two years, Ashley came to the NICU at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in 2012 with a strong background and keen drive and quickly mastered the roles of relief charge and resource nurse. In these roles, she leads our team during time-critical and rapidly changing shifts in an austere setting. Her clinical acumen, poise, and critical thinking make her one of our most highly regarded team members.

As mentor to staff, Ashley shines above all others. Her broad knowledge makes her a primary resource for teaching new and advancing staff. The pride of ownership she demonstrates is inspiring. Whether working with a new graduate, a member of LifeFlight, or a new nurse at one of our referral hospitals, Ashley measures and adjusts her approach with a primary goal of elevating the practice of those around her creating a legacy of clinical excellence.

Congratulations, Ashley! You are so very deserving of this recognition!
